My sentimental and milestone project
Almost 130 teams from 14 countries showed up, and I was responsible for the entire visual direction and all printed materials. This championship holds a special place in my heart as it was my first large-scale endeavor — both a challenge and a milestone in my career. It remains deeply sentimental to me, not only because of its scope but also due to the incredible people I met along the way.
A fresh take on branding
The 505 Class is a top-tier racing dinghy globally, loved by pros, Olympians, and sailing fans everywhere. In light air, it is quick and responsive, and in breeze, it just goes faster. While sailing, the bow rises above the water, cutting its surface and creating splashes.
These dynamic shapes inspired the hand-drawn graphic theme that I seamlessly incorporated with the international 505 logo. At the time, this approach — blending handcrafted elements with a recognizable logo — was unconventional and gave the branding a fresh, distinctive character.
Marina Gdynia brought to life
My designs extended beyond aesthetics. I created a comprehensive wayfinding system, guiding both participants and spectators throughout the Gdynia Marina. From race tracks to restaurants — every spot was infused with the event’s cohesive branding, ensuring an immersive experience for all. The graphic theme carried over to merch, clothing and flags at the regatta. It adorned T-shirts and jackets helping distinguish competitors, judges, and the support team. It was also featured on the official stamps for the sails, which successfully passed the measurement before the races. This approach not only added functionality but also instilled a sense of pride and unity in everyone involved.
A lasting legacy
Even now, the 2018 505 World Championship stands as a key moment in my professional path. It taught me invaluable lessons and connected me with amazing people whose passion and energy continue to inspire me. It’s a project that will always hold a special place in my heart.
